Greenaction

Greenaction's mission is to educate, empower, mobilize, and unite communities to win victories that change government and corporate policies and practices to protect health and to promote environmental justice.
Description

We fight for health and environmental justice by:
• HOLDING corporate polluters and governments ACCOUNTABLE on issues of health and environmental justice
• EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES with organizing, action, media assistance, technical and strategic expertise, and skills building programs for both youth and adults so they gain the knowledge to win victories
• TAKING nonviolent direct ACTION against polluters
• WORKING for pollution prevention, healthy jobs and safe technologies

Our VICTORIES together with community partners include:
• CLOSED the dirty PG&E waste dump Hunters Point power plant in San Francisco and successfully encouraged the use of more clean, renewable energy
• DEFEATED proposed "plasma arc" waste incinerators that would have polluted communities in California (Red Bluff, Watsonville, Sacramento), Arizona, Florida, and Louisiana
• DEFEATED nuclear waste dump proposed at Ward Valley, California on Indigenous lands near the Colorado River
• DEFEATED plans for toxic waste dump near Quitovac, Sonora, Mexico that would have desecrated indigenous sacred site and contaminated nearby O'odham village
• CARRIED OUT successful diesel reduction programs in Bayview Hunters Point, San Francisco and Kettleman City, CA

Our community partners
Greenaction works currently with community partners in California (including in Bayview Hunters Point in San Francisco, West Oakland, Richmond, Kettleman City, other areas in the Central Valley), Arizona (Gila River Indian Community), Utah, New Orleans, and many others.
